MTV Roadies debuted in 2003. The start of the first season was from 15th August 2003. The whole concept was the idea of Raghu Ram who was the associate executive producer at the time. In the start the idea was highly criticized by the heads, but then it got the green signal and in 2003 the first season of Roadies was in front of us.
Initially it was named as MTV: Find The Road but then the name was changed to MTV Roadies. The show started as an experimental project that can go off air anytime. After that the there was no looking back.
In the first two seasons there were just 7 roadies, then in 3rd, 4th and 5th season there were 13 roadies and now in 6th season there are 20 roadies. When the show started, it was based on the concept of finding clues and then figuring out what they meant then the money tasks and immunity tasks were introduced.
The winners of the previous five seasons are:
1) Rannvijjay Singh (Delhi)- winner of the first season
2) Ayushman Khurana (Chandigarh)- winner of the second season
3) Parul Shahi (Delhi)- winner of the third season
4) Anthony Yeh (Kolkatta)- winner of the fourth season
5) Ashutosh Kaushik (Saharanpur)- winner of the fifth season
Achievements of the ex roadies
- Rannvijay Singh- winner of the first season. He is one of the best VJs in India. He has hosted many shows like MTV Hero Honda Roadies, Vodafone MTV Splitsvilla etc. His forthcoming movies are: Toss, London dreams.
- Ayushman Khurana- Winner of Roadies 2. he is also a successful VJ, has hosted many shows like MTV Wassup etc. Apart from this he has worked in Ekta’s serials too (Kyamath). We have also seen him in MTV Faltoo Movies the best one was Cheque de India, which was a spoof on Shahrukh’s Chak De India.
- Shaleen Bhanot- a participant of the season 2 of Roadies. Now he is a well established TV star who has done a number of serials like Saat Phere, Kitani Mast Hai Zindagi, Grihasti, Kulvaddhu etc. These days we are also watching him in Nach Baliye 4 with his girl friend Daljeet.
- Gurbani aka Bani- the runner up of season 4 of Roadies. She has hosted shows like MTV Wassup, On Job.
- Shubhi Mehta- roadie of season 3. She was in Shahrukh’s movie Chak De India.
- Vishal Karwal- from season 4 participated in Splitsvilla and also won the show.
- Varun Saini- from season 5 was also in Splitsvilla.
- Ashutosh Kaushik- winner of Roadies 5 participated in Big Boss 2 and finally emerged as the winner of the show.
- Anmol Singh- roadie of season 5. she has done few serials like Kuch Is Tarah, Bindass show. Presently she is doing a show- gtalk on MTV along with another roadie of season 5 Shambhavi.
- Shambhavi- roadie of season 5. worked in Ekta’s film which is soon to be released. She is doing a show gtalk on MTV.
